Merton Citizens – Urgent request for refugee support

Merton Citizens Refugee Support Group are supporting asylum seekers who are living locally, in particularly difficult circumstances because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Clothes, footwear and luggage are particular needs. A collection has been arranged, at short notice, and your support is needed urgently.

Collection time:   Saturday 10 October – 10 am to 12 pm

Delivery Location:   St. Cecilia Room, Holy Trinity Church,  234 The Broadway, Wimbledon SW19 1SB. The St Cecilia Room is separate from the main entrance to the church, and is accessible from around the back of the churchyard, and also the gate from the vicarage car park (off Trinity Road)

Priority Needs :

• Suitcases & rucksacks – please ensure all luggage tags and personal items are removed, and spray them with disinfectant
• Men’s trainers & boots – size 7/8/9 (41-44)
• Slide sandals/flip flops for use in common areas/bathrooms – mens & women’s sizes 36-45 (4-10).  These should be NEW or very lightly used, please.
• Men’s warm winter coats – mainly size small & medium but can use a few large.  NO XL please!
• Men’s trousers – jogging bottoms, jeans or chinos.  mainly size small & medium/32 waist.  NO dress/suit trousers, please!
• Men’s jumpers/hoodies – mainly size small & medium – NO XL please!
• Ladies boots – sizes 4/5/6 (36-38) – NO high heels please!
• Women’s warm winter coats – mainly size Small/Medium, but can likely use a few large as well. NO XL please!
• Women’s underwear -size small, medium & large – NEW ONLY
• beanie hats (or similar) for outdoor wear – preferably NEW

Please ensure all clothes and shoes are washed, in good condition free from rips and tears, and not overly/ offensively branded.   Sorting your donations by size/gender into separate bags/boxes is appreciated.
