International climate change conference

Church leaders from the Pacific countries of Kiribati and Tuvalu – two nations under direct threat from the disastrous consequences of climate change – will be joining politicians, activists, theologians and academics for a special international conference, entitled: “Earthyear: The Conversation”– on Saturday 26 September, St John’s Church, Waterloo, London.

The conference will explore how communities of faith can and should be responding to the increasing threat of global warming. It is being organised by ministers of the United Reformed Church as part of a number of events that aim to encourage people of faith to engage actively with ecological justice issues.

Key note speakers at “Earthyear: The Conversation” include Prof. Michael Northcott, professor of Ethics at Edinburgh University – best known for his contributions to environmental theology; Alasdair Roxburgh, Christian Aid’s churches campaigns manager; Mark McAllister, chair of oil spill prevention, response and advisory group; Rosalind Selby, principal of Northern College; Maina Talia, secretary of the Tuvalu climate action network and Maleta Rumaroti from the Kiribati Protestant Church.
