Pilots, the non-uniformed Christian organisation of the United Reformed Church, is inviting the whole church to its next big day out on Saturday 16 May from 10.00am – 5.00pm, to take place in a wild Safari, at West Midlands Safari and Leisure Park.
The Pilots big day out is an opportunity for all Pilots, their friends, families, groups and churches, from across England, Scotland and Wales, to come together and celebrate being a Pilot for the day!
Karen Morrison, head of children and youth, said: “From time to time Pilots organise big events to which the whole church is invited – this year’s Safari will be another great opportunity to be a Pilot for the day and enjoy the adventure and excitement involved in being part of a Christian community coming together to explore the world.
“Plans for the event at the West Midlands Safari Park are well under way and in addition to the safari and rides available in the theme park there will be a programme of activities taking place in the Treetop Pavilion for Pilots and Church groups to be involved with.”
Our next meeting will be on Thursday 12 February when a key focus of this special meeting will be to discern Trinity’s response to the URC-wide consultation on the topic of Same Sex Marriages. The meeting will be chaired by Dr Peter Stevenson, the Church & Society Convenor for our URC Southern Synod. Please keep that date free in your diary and make every effort to attend.
To assist discussion within local churches, the URC’s Human Sexuality Task Group has produced the accompanying booklet entitled “One Plus One” (also available for download or reading online at http://www.urc.org.uk/marriage-of-same-sex-couples.html). You are asked to read this carefully before our consultation meeting in February. Copies are available on Sundays and from the Joint Church Secretaries.
21st century living is hectic. Getting the right ‘life balance’ between rest, work and play seems almost impossible. Life Balance offers an opportunity to examine our patterns of rest, work and play, and to look afresh at our values and life principles in the light of the Bible’s teaching about the Sabbath.
We are running two groups this year, in the home of a Trinity member and at the Mansel Road Centre. Each group will meet weekly during Lent.
All are welcome to share in this course and to meet and get to know fellow members.
As we welcome a new year, it is natural to reflect on years past and plan for the one ahead. Often our plans take the shape of resolutions. We resolve to lose weight, to find a better job, to go back to school, to manage our time better, to volunteer more and so on. While these kinds of resolutions are good, I wonder if this year we might commit ourselves to something deeper, something more beautiful. Now is the perfect time to commit to reading through the Bible in a year. Here are five reasons why you should consider dedicating 365 days to this pursuit:
