The second in our series of film screenings for Advent will take place on Tuesday 6 December – at 2pm and 7.30pm in the Mansel Road Centre.
This week’s film is “The Green Mile” (1999), Drama, 18 (violence, language)
A 1930s prison guard, dutifully watching over those sentenced to execution, finds his outlook deeply challenged by the arrival of a sadistic colleague and a ‘gentle giant’ of a new prisoner. Based on a novel by Stephen King; directed by Frank Darabont.
Themes of repentance and responsiblity are prominent in the Church’s observation of Advent, and run through this richly-charactiersed prison drama in unexpected ways.
