You’ve seen the news. A series of devastating earthquakes have hit southern Turkey (now known as Türkiye) and north-west Syria. The first 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit in the early hours of Monday morning when people were sleeping. There have since been a number of aftershocks and a second 7.5 magnitude earthquake. Over 100,000 people have been killed, many more are injured and local responders are searching through the rubble for survivors.
People have been left without shelter in freezing winter conditions, with humanitarian needs expected to grow in the coming days.
The DEC have launched an emergency Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal. DEC member charities urgently need your support to help provide food, heaters, blankets, medical care, clean drinking water and shelter.
DEC charities and their local partners are already responding, working with locally-led relief efforts to help save lives but they need your help to reach more people. Please give today.
